Earth Hour, 2012

Dear Friends,

WWF-India, the country’s largest conservation organization has been working on promoting nature conservation and environmental protection across the country for over four decades. I am writing to you regarding one of our biggest public campaigns, Earth Hour, which you have been supporting from past three years.

Earth Hour is WWF’s global initiative where citizens around the globe show their support for action on climate change by turning off non-essential lights and electric equipments for one hour. Having emerged as the largest climate action in history, Earth Hour has inspired individuals, governments and corporations to move towards responsible consumption and conservation of energy.

Over 10 million people across India participated in Earth Hour last year. It received unprecedented support demonstrated by participation from over 130 cities, over 100,000 students, several iconic monuments, hotels and prominent buildings. Earth hour 2012 provides a platform for you to show leadership on initiatives that are being undertaken towards ensuring energy efficiency at all levels.

This year Earth Hour will be observed from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm on Saturday 31th March 2012. We call for your support both for the hour and towards a sustained commitment beyond the hour. We would like to make Earth hour a self-perpetrating drive that inspires us to modify the way we live, every single day so that we contribute towards mitigating the impacts of climate change.

I am writing to seek your valuable support for the campaign and I hope that you will join hands with us to mobilize this call for action towards a good cause. Please encourage citizens, communities and local institutions in your capacity to support and participate in this global and national event. We humbly request that non-essential lights especially that consume substantial wattages of power be switched off from 8.30 pm till 9.30 pm on Saturday 31th March, 2012. Also, visit our website www.earthhour.in to ‘take a pledge’ and make your city Earth Hour Champion.

Further, If you inform us about your participation in the earth hour by way of organizing a local event / activity / gathering we will be able to keep our PR team and the media updated to cover your participation. We would be glad if you could facilitate in getting us free advertisement space/ hoarding/ billboards to promote and create awareness about the Earth Hour.
We look forward to your support and partnership in Earth Hour and to help spread the message across.
